Today's musical recommendation - "Sweet Disposition" by The Temper Trap

Yes, my musical tastes are all over the place and hopefully the one I eventually meet and enter into a relationship with appreciates that open mindedness about moi :)

When you read a profile what are some of the first things you scan?

For me do they smoke, how often do they drink, and location.

Now considering I'm looking at profiles in Ottawa the last one might sound silly but when you consider someone might be considered geographically close by POF but live in Rockland or Gatineau that does make a difference.

I've come across some great profiles for women located in Gloucester, Orleans, and Gatineau but haven't sent any flirty messages due to the distances between us. My location shows as Ottawa but actually live in Nepean so you can see where this might be a problem, maybe not so much at the start and maybe I'm shooting myself in the foot by not taking a chance but what happens if something develops between us......lets say she lives in Orleans and I'm in Kanata - where I'm moving to in August having just bought my own place :) - so who ends up making the move.....what about the impact on kids?....work?....friends?......

I know that some of you will be sitting there thinking I'm so getting ahead of myself and you are probably more right than wrong......except for the fact that this very issue has come up twice already....once with someone who lived in Gloucester and swore she'd never move her kids, fast forward to the present and she recently moved to Blackburn Hamlet, and the other who lived in Gatineau and worked in Tunney's Pasture for the fed's. When I first started house hunting I didn't really take into account the impact my decision to move to Kanata would have on her or our relationship and when she broached the subject I felt put off......we ended up breaking things off and part of the reason was my decision to move further west than she really was willing to entertain......

So before anyone gets up in arms about this please note that I have done the ultimate long distance relationship - Los Angeles to Ottawa for almost a year before I made the life changing decision and secured my Canadian citizenship and moved to be with my now ex.......so LDR's don't scare me in the sense I don't think they can work out but rather at some point the LDR that is local is harder to deal with than the one that crosses borders.....

So depending on where you live would you date someone from across town??

As always comments and opinions are welcome but I'll keep following the path less travelled in my own journey :)

  1. I think when you do like somebody and feel comfortable with that person distance means nothing. (Blueberry)
